About Simple Field Paper

A reference site on letterpress printing and typesetting history in Poland. No commercial purpose.

What this site is

Simple Field Paper collects and presents documented information about letterpress printing, movable type, and hand typesetting as practised in Poland from the fifteenth century to the mid-twentieth. The focus is on techniques, tools, materials, and the historical conditions under which they developed.

Content is drawn from publicly available sources: historical monographs, library digitisation projects, Wikipedia, and image archives on Wikimedia Commons. Nothing on this site is commercially motivated; there are no products, subscriptions, or paid placements.

Scope and limits

The site covers the history of letterpress printing, which is a form of relief printing using raised type or blocks inked and pressed against a surface. It does not cover offset, gravure, screen printing, or digital printing methods except where they relate historically to the transition away from letterpress. The geographic focus is Poland, though articles necessarily refer to broader European printing history where that context is required.

Sources are cited at the end of each article. Where the historical record is ambiguous or incomplete, the text uses neutral language rather than speculation. No fabricated data, invented quotations, or unverifiable claims are included.
